About the Physicians
Our team of pediatricians are all certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, serve as fellows in the American Academy of Pediatrics and spend considerable time teaching medical students and pediatric residents at DeVos Children’s Hospital. All are clinical professors at Michigan State University’s medical school.
Dr. Vilnis Meiers received his undergraduate degree from Grand Valley State University and his medical degree at the University of Michigan. He completed his residency at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids and joined the practice in 1986.
Raised in Grand Rapids, Dr. Meiers now lives in Grand Haven with his wife Dorothy of 45 years. They enjoy traveling and spending lots of their free time with their grandchildren.
Dr. Aaron VanZee received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and received his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He completed his residency at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids and joined Cascade Pediatrics practice in 2001.
A native of Rockford and graduate of Rockford High School, Dr. VanZee now lives in East Grand Rapids with his wife and three sons and their dog, Jack. Dr. VanZee loves spending time with his children, kayaking, gardening, and watching college football.
Dr. Alanna Barron received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and her medical degree from Wayne State School of Medicine. She completed her residency at the University Medical Center in San Diego and joined the practice in 2000.
Born in San Francisco and raised in Birmingham, Michigan, Dr. Barron and her family live in Grand Haven, Michigan. Prior to joining the Cascade Pediatric team, Dr. Barron practiced pediatrics in San Diego and then spent two years in Okinawa, Japan as a civilian pediatrician while her husband was a naval physician.
Dr. Barron loves spending time with her husband, who is an ophthalmologist, and their two daughters. She enjoys traveling, reading, music and concerts, as well as running 5K races and coaching “Girls on The Run.”
Dr. Lisa Brown received both her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Michigan, and completed her pediatric and chief residencies at Children’s Hospital of Oakland, California. She joined Cascade Pediatrics in 1996.
Dr. Lisa Brown grew up in the Grand Rapids area. After living in Northern California for eight years, Dr. Brown returned to Western Michigan and now lives in Cascade with her husband and two children. She enjoys spending time with her family, sailing, traveling, reading, and writing.
Dr. Mark Weirich received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and his medical degree from State University of New York at Buffalo. He completed his residency at DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.
Dr. Weirich grew up in the Buffalo, NY area and joined the practice in 2003. He currently lives in Rockford with his wife and twin daughters, and enjoys traveling and participating in triathlons.
Dr. Sarah Elmouchi received both her undergraduate degree and her medical degree from the University of Michigan. She completed her pediatric and chief residencies at Moffitt Long Hospital, at the University of California, San Francisco in 2002.
Dr. Elmouchi lives in Ada with her husband, a cardiologist, and three children. She likes spending time with her family and playing the piano, snow skiing, and running 10K races. She completed the Grand Rapids marathon in 2008.
Dr. Erika Crane received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and her medical degree from Wayne State University. She completed her pediatrics and chief residencies at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit in 2007.
Prior to joining Cascade Pediatrics, Dr. Crane was associate program director of the pediatric residency program at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. She also worked for Wayne State’s Physicians’ Group as a Pediatric Hospitalist and at the Pediatric Urgent Care Clinic at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. She joined the practice in 2010.
A West Michigan native, Dr. Crane is married and lives in Ada with her husband and two small children.
Dr. Andrew Gunderson received his undergraduate degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota and his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He completed his pediatrics residency at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan and joined Cascade Pediatrics in 2013.
Dr. Andy grew up in western Minnesota, but since moving to the Mitten State, he and his wife have enjoyed exploring all that West Michigan has to offer. They now have a young son and playful dog named Leif. Dr. Andy enjoys all things Scandinavian, playing soccer, reading, traveling and writing haiku.
Dr. Greg Jereb received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, graduating in 2005. He subsequently received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Human Medicine at Peoria. Finally, he finished his training by graduating from the pediatric residency program at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he also served as chief resident.
Dr. Jereb was born and raised in central Illinois and developed an undying love for all Fighting Illini (University of Illinois) sports. He also grew up playing any sport that was offered, but he eventually settled on golf as being his regular recreational activity. Dr. Jereb met his wonderful wife, Dr. Heather Jereb, in medical school. Heather is an OB-GYN who practices with Grand Rapids Women’s Health. Together, the Drs. Jereb enjoy spending time with their dog Tucker, visiting the fine restaurants of Grand Rapids, and traveling as much as possible!
